Harper Adams' Students Win National Competition
Posted 15 March 2006
THREE hi-tech students from Harper Adams University College have picked up prizes in a national farming competition.
The trio collected the prizes earlier this month after taking part in the Farmers Weekly Fantasy Farmer online competition.
And fourth year Agriculture with Crop Management student, David Martin, collected the first prize of a Farm Plan software – worth almost £700.
He was closely followed by Jonathan Wells, a fourth year Countryside Management student, and Mark Larwood, a fourth year Agriculture student.
Commenting on his win, David said: “I am delighted that the arduous hours of procrastination paid off. Maybe with this software it will allow me to run my own enterprise successfully.”
During the online game, which was run last year, they were required to buy a tractor, livestock and crops. They then had to manage their assets by planning purchases of feed and crop planting so that the yield could be maximised without going bankrupt.
